Letting go. It sounds like loss, melancholy, and grief, but also like liberation and relief. The parent-child relationship is constantly caught between these two forces: On the one hand, we want to protect and shield our children with all our might and feel responsible for them; on the other hand, from the moment of birth, a child’s entire development is geared toward autonomy.
In our live talk, we discussed how we as parents can successfully create space for development and autonomy, how we can be not only protectors but also enablers, and how we can give our children both roots and wings. The expert speaker of the talk was Katrin Guist, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist and Counsellor at INSITE.
